The client required a single-storey rear extension. To allow views to the garden and a feeling of space the ceiling was vaulted with a glazed gable end. Two options were completed for the client, a traditional finish to match existing and a contemporary form to be in contrrast with the building. The client chose this final design. Natural light and open plan living were an important factor within this new space.
Our client approached sda to design a contemporary single-storey rear extension. Whilst being bold in form and style it was to blend in with the existing house utilising black timber cladding. The design allows views to the garden via fixed corner frameless glass and a single entrance sidling door. A feeling of space was created with a mono-pitch vaulted ceiling and connects to the outside space further with a wrapped roof light from the roof to the rear elevation with frameless glass to the gable end.
Our client wanted a seamless threshold and sense of blurring the boundary from the internal to external spaces, their garden design finishes the extension superbly and creates a wonderful contemporary space with exposed steel beams and brick facing to the internal wall, all enhanced with natural light from above and the rear elevation to create an open plan living space from the existing kitchen.
