Spatial Design Architects were contacted by the client to undertake the design and gain planning permission for a contemporary rear and side extension in Upminster, London.
This project reimagines the rear of the property through a contemporary extension that strengthens the connection between the house and its garden. The new addition creates a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, defined by large areas of glazing that draw natural light deep into the interior and open directly onto a landscaped terrace.
A restrained palette of dark zinc cladding and slim-framed glazing provides a clear yet sympathetic contrast to the existing building, allowing the extension to read as a modern addition under the retained upper structure. The result is a calm, light-filled living environment that enhances everyday family life while establishing a stronger visual and spatial relationship with the garden.
The extension also features a modern oriel window creating a window seat to enjoy views out across our clients plot.
The design incorporates:
- Contemporary rear & side single-storey extension with floor to ceiling glazing and glass corners
- Internal alterations and fenestration changes
The project is currently at the technical stage with more information to follow on this exciting new project.
